Microsoft should distribute old laptops in the third world.
As described in this New York Times article, Microsoft has taken losses paying for the recycling of old laptops that are in workable condition.  Why not donate them to needy folks around the world?

You'd need to make sure to format the hard drives first, there could be some potentially sensitive / embarassing information on those.

I think this might be a viable idea, but we need more research on the details.  How will they charge their laptops?  What about internet access?  There's a lot of infrastructure that makes laptops usable.
